Your privacy matters. This Privacy Policy explains what information is (and isn’t) collected when you interact with my books, my BookBub author page, or my related websites and projects.

1. Information I Collect

  • Directly from you: If you sign up for updates, newsletters, or giveaways, I may collect your name and email address.
  • Automatically: Basic analytics may be collected (like how many people visit a page), but this does not personally identify you.
  • BookBub: If you follow me on BookBub, I see only the information BookBub makes available to authors (for example, how many people follow or interact with a post).

2. How Your Information is Used

  • To send you book release updates, newsletters, or giveaways (if you choose to sign up).
  • To improve books, websites, and reader engagement.
  • To share community project updates connected to book sales (such as gardens and the Mushroom House).

3. What I Don’t Do

  • I do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
  • I do not collect sensitive information (like financial details, birthdates, or addresses).
  • I do not spam. You can unsubscribe from emails anytime.

4. Cookies & Tracking

  • Some websites connected to my projects may use cookies for basic analytics (like counting visits).
  • You can disable cookies in your browser if you prefer.

5. Third-Party Services

  • BookBub: Your use of BookBub is subject to their privacy policy.
  • Email/Newsletter Providers: If you sign up for emails, I use standard providers (like Mailchimp or similar) to manage subscriptions securely.

  • My children’s books are written for kids, but personal information is only collected from adults (parents, guardians, teachers) who sign up for updates.
  • I do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Privacy Note for Parents

Dear Parents,
Your child’s safety and privacy matter. My books are made for fun and learning — not for collecting personal data. Here’s what you should know:

  • No information is collected from children.
  • If there’s a page for your child’s name, age, or date, it’s only for them to fill in for fun — it stays in the book, not with me.
  • If you sign up for updates or newsletters, I’ll only use your adult contact information (like your email).
  • I will never sell or share your information with anyone.
  • You can unsubscribe from updates anytime.

Thank you for sharing these books with your family. Every book sold also helps grow real gardens and community projects, so your purchase makes a difference beyond the page.

With gratitude,

Donald V. Dunham

🐞 Safety Note for Parents and Kids

The insects in these books are real creatures found in nature. Some are safe to observe and even handle gently, while others should only be looked at — never touched.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Safe to Handle: Some insects (like ladybugs or certain beetles) are harmless and fun to hold. Always use gentle hands and let them crawl without squeezing.
  • Look, Don’t Touch: Other insects (like praying mantises or large moths) can be fragile or may pinch if handled. These are best admired from a distance.
  • Be Careful Outdoors:
    • Never disturb a nest, hive, or group of insects.
    • Wash your hands after handling bugs.
    • Release insects back where you found them — they are part of nature’s balance.

👉 In each of my “Now I Know What a ___ Is!” books, you’ll see clear labels showing whether the insect is:

  • Safe to Handle
  • Not Safe to Handle
  • Observe with Care 👀

This way, children learn both the wonder of insects and the respect they deserve.
