About Donald V. Dunham

"From a young age, I've been deeply connected to the earth and its bounty. My journey began at the tender age of 7, when I started growing bird seed for my mother's canaries and parakeets. This early experience ignited a passion in me to cultivate more; I realized I could grow food, not just for birds, but for people. However, a pivotal moment came when I found myself deeply troubled after witnessing images of starving children on television. Amidst the despair, I noticed unused land in the background and questioned why it wasn't being transformed into gardens to feed the hungry. This observation sparked a relentless quest within me to understand the complexities of food scarcity. I became committed to the belief that no one should starve in a world where there's land that could be cultivated. This has been the driving force behind my lifelong dedication to exploring sustainable agriculture and finding solutions to hunger."

The Importance of Hands-On Learning for Kids

Children are naturally curious. They don’t just want to hear about the world — they want to touch it, explore it, and make sense of it with their own hands. This is why hands-on learning is one of the most powerful tools in education.

Learning by Doing

Research has shown that kids retain far more knowledge when they are actively involved in the process. Coloring an insect, planting a seed, or building something with their own hands creates a direct...

Nourishing Recovery – Healing Begins in the Kitchen

Introduction

Recovery isn’t only about rest or medication—it’s about what you feed your body while it rebuilds.

In Nourishing Recovery, we explored the simple truth that food isn’t just fuel—it’s medicine.

And in a world where fast fixes dominate, returning to this idea is an act of wisdom.

The Forgotten Medicine

Modern recovery routines often skip the basics.

You can’t rebuild a house without materials—and your body can’t heal without...

Where Every Dollar Grows

When you buy one of my books, you’re not just getting pages to read or color — you’re planting seeds. Literally.

All net proceeds from my books go toward two real-world projects with a single goal: to feed, educate, and inspire.

The Community Gardens

Across communities, people are struggling to access fresh, healthy food. Our community gardens change that. These gardens are open, educational spaces where families can learn how to grow what they eat — and children see...

Weekends are for slowing down, but they’re also for looking around and remembering what we’re building — not just online, but out in the world.

Every story, every post, every coloring book, and every guide we create has one goal: to rebuild connection — between people, food, nature, and purpose.

The Real Work Behind the Words

When we talk about “Every book plants a seed,” we mean it.

Each sale, each share, and each moment of attention helps fund community gardens and the future Mushroom House —...
